The human soul is a natural enemy to God because we have been alienated from Him. (Romans 8:7, Colossians 1:21,22) This alienation takes the form of spiritual blindness. We simply cannot comprehend the truth about the Lord. God is light and there is no darkness at all in Him, yet our humanity has a natural affinity for darkness. (John 3:19) To compensate for the contamination of man’s soul, God Himself provided His own solution as recorded in these scriptures:

For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. (Leviticus 17:11)

And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. (Hebrews 9:22)

How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (Hebrews 9:14)
Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light;

Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: (Colossians 1:12-14)

To summarize these four passages of scripture, God has declared in His word that the purging or cleansing of the soul- —the mind, emotions, willpower and personality of man— can only be obtained through shed blood. In reading the old and new testament, various scriptures suggest that blood, both animal and human, has the capacity to speak when it falls to the ground. In some supernatural way, the Father God can hear a voice cry out to Him from the ground and He is compelled to respond. (Genesis 4:10) To Cain in the first book of old testament, God declared that the voice of his brother Abel’s blood cried out to Him for justice. Consistent with this explanation is a scripture in the last book of the new testament which indicates that the blood of the martyrs continually cries out to God for vindication. (Revelation 6:10). Therefore, I suggest that human blood spilt to the ground has a compelling voice.

This would explain why the Israelites would continually offer blood sacrifices of lambs, bulls and turtledoves at the altar of God. The blood of innocent, non-violent animals such as lambs, bullocks, goats and turtledoves voiced a temporary atonement. Similar to the eighth step in recovery, the Israelites were required by law to make amends for their wrong doing on an ongoing basis. However, the blood offering of God Himself through His Son is a remarkable provision.

The blood of Jesus speaks better things than the blood of Abel. (Hebrews 12:24) For within the dispensation of God’s grace, we can obtain an extraordinary atonement by the blood of Jesus the Redeemer. Redemption is an eternal atonement that sets us free from the bondage of our tainted souls. Oh, to be set free from the bondage of sin. Yet it seems too simple a process for those with a religious demon to believe by faith in the blood atonement of the Christ. They can understand punishment, suffering and penance, but who  can fathom the grace of God? Instead, our human nature compels the lost  to cling to their  personal testimonies of the shame, guilt and disgrace of drunkenness.

The revealed truth of God’s word is that the blood of Jesus cleanses our conscience from the dead works of the past. This truth is not for the mind to understand. It is for the spirit to receive the Lord’s grace and for the soul to believe His word. We shall overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. (Revelation 12:11) The testimony is that it is impossible to make amends for even a tenth of our wrongdoing, for even a tenth would be insurmountable. The Lord is looking for those among His people who can testify that when they received the shed blood of Jesus at the cross for the atonement of their own souls, their conscience was cleansed from the dead works of their past wrongdoing. (Hebrews 9:14)

One way to recognize someone who has had a false conversion is if they are still condemned by the sins of their past before Christ. The power of the blood has not been applied to their lives as evidenced by the fact that their conscience has not been cleansed from dead works.

Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light;
